Christopher Hitchens is a British-American author, journalist, literary critic, polemicist and outspoken antitheist. He has been a columnist at Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, The Nation, Slate, Free Inquiry, Wall Street Journal and links to almost all his archive is available on Build Up That Wall, along with videos, recommended reading and links.
Hitchens is a contrarian and polarises opinion - for example, he was a socialist but became increasingly disenchanted with the left and by the presidency of Bill Clinton, whom he had known at Oxford, accusing him of being a rapist and a liar. Hitchens also claimed that the missile attacks by Clinton on Sudan constituted a war crime but then supported George W Bush's war on terrorism after the 9/11 attacks. He describes atheism as not just a healthy belief system but a moral necessity in order to avoid the excesses due to religion. His most recent book is 2007's God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.
