GetUp! Post-election wrap-up

Online progressive activist group GetUp! - which currently boasts 226,568 members - played a large role in this year's election campaign, especially in the seats of Wentworth and Bennelong. GetUp! is neither Labor nor Liberal, but encourages people to be aware of the important issues such as climate change, indigenous inequality and other progressive issues. The latest blog posts concerns the end of an era - the Howard era:

Over the next few weeks, many narratives will be woven about this election - about why Kevin Rudd won, what happened in the Senate, and what it all means for the future. One key aspect of those narratives will be this emerging member-driven grassroots movement - this animal that is GetUp - along with the extraordinary work done this election by other non-partisan progressive organisations.

So what story do you see? What picture does this election paint for Australia's future? What role do you see for GetUp in the new political landscape?

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." -- Ronald Reagan (1986)
