The guitarist gave the Rest Of The World side a first-half lead with a curling first-time chip over the England XI's goalkeeper David Seaman. He went on to receive the Man Of The Match award from ITV1 commentator Graham Taylor, who commented:
"Scoring a goal like that at Old Trafford is something that's going to stay with him for the rest of his life"
Speaking after the game, Pizzorno said he was "honoured" to be asked to play in the match, and dedicated his goal to bandmate Tom Meighan, who he said had just become a father. "I'm proud of that one," he added of his goal.
Pizzorno's strike eventually proved to be the consolation in a 3-1 defeat for the Rest Of The World, who also fielded the likes of Michael Sheen, Woody Harrelson and Will Ferrell. Meanwhile, match organiser Robbie Williams turned out for the England XI along with Olly Murs and members of JLS.
It's not the first time Pizzorno, who had youth trials for Nottingham Forest FC, has shown his footballing prowess on the telly. He infamously scored a scintillating volley in the Road To Wembley Segment of Soccer AM in 2006.
