Everyone has had that moment where they’ve announced, “that’s it, I’m deleting my Facebook!” I’m sure you remember a friend or two that went through with this, only for you to find a new friend request a week later. So why are so many of us contemplating this decision?- by Rebecca Scott

 

Because we are all constantly using it. In fact social media has now become the number one activity on the web. But have you ever thought that perhaps rather than fighting this urge, you could work with it. Yes you did read correctly, now there is way you can make all those hours you spend on Facebook and Twitter worth it - by being paid to do it. After reviewing some of the recent job titles used in adverts on Jobserve.com it became clear that some interesting titles are beginning to evolve.

One employer was seeking out the perfect ‘Chief Executive Twitterer’ while another was hoping to add a ‘Twitterer-in-Chief’ to their team.

However if Facebook is more your thing you could always apply to be a ‘Facebook Fashionista’.

Or if you are looking for something a little more serious, what about becoming a ‘Manager of Deep Web Research’? Other employers tried to be a little more creative hoping to find their ideal ‘Social Media Maven’; a ‘Pastor of Communications’ and even a ‘Skype Scalper’.

With Socialnomic’s founder, Erik Qualman, calling social media the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution it is clear that this creativity in job titles is only going to grow.

So go on write that status update about how much you need your morning coffee.

After all you could be getting paid to do it soon and you know what they say, practice makes perfect!

Is Zuckerberg really the Person of the Year?

It´s official, Time magazine´s Person of the Year for 2010 has gone to Facebook´s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg; but is the choice a worthy one?

On the face of it (`scuse the pun) yes he is, he´s managed to create a network that connects 600 million people (just under a tenth of the world´s population) and he´s done so in a way that seems unlikely to slow down. The interface he built is simple to use, he´s in the media which constantly fuels attention and he´s reached a tipping point whereby everyone has to have a Facebook account to have an online identity- in the same way that everyone had to have a mobile a few years a ago to keep in touch.

On the other hand the line from Time magazine´s Editor that "he is both a product of his generation and an architect of it" seems a bit exaggerated, if Facebook hadn´t come along then I´m sure that Myspace would have stayed on as the social network of choice and the world wouldn´t have suffered for it. 

But I suppose cheers to Zuckerberg, a man who seemingly doesn´t care about privacy and knows we don´t really care about it either, who has made an absolute fortune but seems to be prepared to give a bit of it back too.    . . read more

Assange: Facebook, Google, Yahoo spying tools for US intelligence
